I’m looking forward to a reading at 2:30 Sunday at my church, Myers Park Baptist, which has been a loving and supportive community for us for nearly three decades. The church figures in several pieces in my book, including one column on why our church was kicked out of the N.C. State Baptist Convention and another on a Bible study class that figured into the most widely read column I’ve written, about meeting a young man with AIDS in a shopping mall. I’ll read those two on Sunday.
A few days later Marylyn and I will be off to Mississippi, where I’m on a panel at the Oxford Conference for the Book. Then we’ll drive to New Orleans for a meeting of the Urban Libraries Council, on whose board I serve. Since it’s a business trip, we’ll try not to have too much fun in New Orleans.
